Strange Glitch

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

My apologies if you’ve had some trouble accessing the site today. My hosting company was having some problems with their mail server, which seems unrelated and then WordPress couldn’t access my SQL database. Hence no web site.

I’d just upgraded to WordPress v3.0 and so I thought there might be some theme problems. Deleting a theme file brought it all back and here we are again, although it seems that I deleted the file from a theme I wasn’t using at the time. Maybe just looking at my SQL database rejigged something.

One of life’s little mysteries… Anyway I better get out there doing stuff that I can put on here and pay more attention to my little web site. It was probably just lonely.

Taste That Ash?

Friday, May 21st, 2010

You know, I think a fair bit of that volcanic ash is diffusing down to ground level here in Scotland. I’ve had a dry throat for a couple of days and now I can definitely smell burnt dust in the air. I hope it clears over the coming week as I’ve got some singing to do with Arbelos when we play the Newbattle Abbey College Celtic Festival on Saturday 29th.

Does anyone else smell this volcano or have respiratory problems?

Martian Landscape

The air tastes like it's been imported from Mars.

It may be Spring

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Well, that’s the UK General Election over for another few months. We might have some sort of government by the end of next week and, while I wait, I thought I’d spruce up the site. It hasn’t snowed for a few days now and so I think I can assume it may be Spring. This is a nice chance to play with my new copy of Carrara 7 which made the pretty blossoming tree at the head of the page.

And here’s a lovely view of neolithic barrow, Cairnpapple Hill, as it caught the spring sunshine last Saturday.

More Apollo Anniversaries

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

An Apollo CSMI just found a great website, maintained by the BBC. They’ve compiled many of their recordings of TV coverage from the Apollo era in a Moon Landings Archive. Here you can watch the same news coverage that we, in the UK, saw at the time, as well as some more recent documentary shows.

Also we are coming up to a big anniversary. 14th April will mark 40 years since the accident that prevented Apollo 13 landing on the Moon. This is close to the date for Yuri’s Night (12th April) and will likely be a focus for space enthusiasts around the world. Arbelos hopes to perform a new song for Apollo 13 at the Dumfries Yuri’s Night party on 10th April.
