Fame At Last!

Well – Arbelos is famous now – at least until Christmas. My little Christmas song to celebrate Apollo 8 forty years ago is actually a finalist in the MySpace Christmas Song Competition. The Two Piece Orchestra

Wow – was my birthday the last time I posted here? Well, I’ve been busy trying to get a commercial musical project going and I may finally have a goer here.

The latest project is the Two Piece Orchestra. I think it’s original as the smallest orchestra I can find out there is the Three Piece Orchestra and they’re a rock band, not an orchestra. It will consist of Arbelos guitarist Ken on classical guitar and myself on acoustic bass and we’re going to play lounge music! Yes – we now span all genres from prog to lounge! Anyway we got the idea when a local restaurant put out word that they wanted seasonal music to accompany dining. We missed getting that one but I’m sending out flyers to see if any other local eateries would like some tasteful guitar-based Christmas standards and classical carols.

Arbelos Live Trio

Well – it’s my birthday – and somehow I don’t feel any older. I had a really nice day in the bosom of my family with cake and presents. In the afternoon I got together with Ken and Noel to have a first try with the Arbelos live trio. Noel was here virtually by way of eJamming and Ken and I inhabited the garage.

The sound was really promising and we’re planning to play at an Open Mike session next week. The live line-up is currently Noel Chidwick on lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Ken Grubb on backing vocals and lead guitar and myself on backing vocals, bass and midi bass. Yes, I’ve midied up a bass and I’m having a lot of fun with it. Sunjammer is awesome! I’m going to have to change my profile picture to show the new beast.

On another musical front, I got a Stylophone for my birthday from my brother. The new Stylophone is a wonderful hybrid of the old Rolf Harris original with some newer electronics that make it mp3 friendly. Needless to say I got to work and found that you can prog with a Stylophone. The result is in my profile songs and is called Oceanic Stylophones. Something like it may appear on the next Arbelos CD.

More news later, when we’ve got the expanded Arbelos onto a stage.
