It’s Tuesday 5th of March – Creator Owned Day – a day to celebrate the world’s comic creators and for the creators to exercise their imaginations. The first Creator Owned Day was this time last year when Stephen Downey and others laid down the Creator Owned Challenge for the world’s independent comic makers to come up with entirely new ideas just for the day.
So here it is again and the Challenge is back. Follow the #CreatorOwnedDay tag on Twitter to see who has posted some new characters that may make it into comics in the near future. Never shy of self-publicity, I decided to have a bash myself and I’ve come up with three different characters in three different genres.
First we have a heroine from the days of the Saturday morning movie serials. Kitty Wake is a brave aviatrix blazing a trail in the pioneering world of aviation, exploring the distant corners of the world, and probably accompanied by a sidekick with a name like Red Kite.
Next we have a silver age hero in the form of Jack Seaton submariner. He’s the kind of guy that would have turned up in a British boys’ comic in the sixties, exploring the seas in a variety of cool ships and submarines.
Lastly, I’ve gone all cosmic. An experiment to test M-theory goes horribly wrong and a man is spread between the branes of the multiverse. With no memory of his past, he is a new being doomed to pass between the universes trying to make sense of his expanded cosmic existence.
I’ll scatter these over Twitter throughout the day and have a look out for whatever else may come up from clever creators everywhere.
